FESTIVINI ARTISTS

THE CREATIVE RESIDENCE FONTEVRAUD LA SCENE + FESTIVINI

Festivini is the meeting between those who cultivate the land and those who discover it, taste it and travel through it. Wine allows this encounter. It is around this dynamic of sharing that this creation residency project was born. With this expertise and this ability to implement graphic design projects, the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, by its territorial proximity and the artistic challenges that are its own, is the natural partner of this project. Thus, in 2014, Festivini joined forces with Fontevraud La Scène to encourage and support contemporary creation.

Every year, we launch a call for projects. It is then a real challenge that we entrust to the winning artist: creation of the Festivini poster, the collection of labels of the Cuvée Fontevraud (affixed to more than 7000 bottles) and design of an exhibition at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, which lasts one year. *

It is at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, in the former abbey dwelling, that the artist will stay for a month. Between meetings with the winegrowers and discovery of the vineyard, the artist immerses himself in the Saumurois landscape. This experience is a unique opportunity to meet a different culture, knowledge and everyday life. It is this anchoring within the territory that gives the artist the freedom to seize the image of the vineyard and those who make its history, its notoriety.

Laureate 2021 : Elvire Caillon

Painter, draftsman and illustrator, Elvire's work spans multiple fields, from exhibitions to the illustrated press, including publishing, theatre, music and textiles. From the Estienne school to the Beaux-Arts in Paris, her career has led her to develop a pictorial universe whose language is enriched with each new form, new context, new collaboration. It is precisely in this diversity that she finds her fulfillment and the resources necessary for her creativity, considering that the characteristic of the artist is to "move". The FESTIVINI residency represents for Elvire an opportunity to explore yet another new area of collaboration, in the world of gastronomy which interests her particularly.

"The paintings of Elvire Caillon are at first glance the translation of common images of happiness: daily scenes of quiet life, children, group visit to a museum, holidays, climbing course, metro platform, ... familiar representations of today's life, never made on the motif but mounted from one of her photographs or a drawing projected on the canvas, allowing a precise and audacious framing. The paintings of Elvire Caillon are inspired, his painting suggests a lot. It restores the emotional charge of the image by neutralizing certain details of the form and by playing on the different hues." Francoise Docquiert

Laureate 2020 : Laureline De Leuuw !

Laureline de Leeuw graduated from the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Angers in 2015. Since then, she has worked as an independent designer in Paris. She approaches design as a method for questioning realities, anchoring creation in a context, whether geographical, economic, social, cultural, or as many parameters that shape a territory. Several residences have allowed him to anchor his projects in multiple territorial contexts, whether on the island of Reunion or in the Mediterranean basin, from Morocco to Marseille. In September 2019, it was at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud that she was inspired by the Festivini universe, to honor the product of wine and all the professions that surround it.

RESIDENCE FESTIVINI + FONTEVRAUD THE SCENE

2018: A 9th edition with visuals by Katarzyna Bogucka !

Katarzyna Bogucka is the 2018 winner of the Festivini residency! After spending the whole month of September 2017 at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, and thus being inspired by the Festivini universe, the Polish artist produced the various visuals for the 2018 edition: posters, labels, as well only small images that you find on the whole site. Her works, representing all that she was able to see and feel during this month in Saumur, will remain on display for a year at the Abbey.

A graduate of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Katarzyna is not at her first exhibition, nor at her first prize: she has, among other things, received a special prize at the International Illustration Competition of Nami Island in Seoul in 2013 !

Katarzyna will be succeeded in 2019 by Delphine Vaute, selected by the jury at Fontevraud Abbey on April 20!

All the story....

Initiated with JEAN-ADRIEN MERCIER (1899-1995), painter and poster designer born in Angers, the meeting of Art and Wine in the Saumur region began in the 1950s.

Around 1957, Mercier illustrated a brochure presenting the wines of Anjou for the CIVAS (Interprofessional Committee for the wines of Anjou and Saumur) entitled: The attractive wines of Anjou and Saumur.

The collaboration continues with this poster, produced for the Saumur-Champigny appellation:

Later, Stéphanie Javel produced these illustrations, including the famous Red Dress....

The story continues intensely with FESTIVINI...

In 2014, for the 5th edition of the Wine Culture Festival, two Belgian artists took on the challenge of creating FESTIVINI posters: Carl ROOSENS & Noémie MARSILY.

These artists worked in residence at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud and were able to immerse themselves in the cultural heritage of Saumurois.
