SAUMUR PUY NOTRE DAME

SAUMUR PUY-NOTRE-DAME

The wine

Annual production : 2 000 hl

Basic yield : 50 hl/ha

Varities : Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon (15 % maximum for the vintage).

Degustation

The Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame is a red wine with a deep color, full-bodied, powerful and harmonious. It is dominated by aromas of red and black fruits with a beautiful persistence in mouth, characteristic of wines for ageing.

Ageing potential: Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame can be drunk young but its complexity is revealed after several years of ageing (5/10 years).

The vineyard

Location: Le Puy-Notre-Dame, located 20 km south of the city of Saumur, is the highest point of this region. The Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame appellation area is the result of a very strict delimitation and extends over 17 communes, but is mainly located in the communes of Puy-Notre-Dame, Vaudelnay and Brossay. It is based on the ability of these soils to produce great wines for ageing, on the particularly dry climate, the history and the tradition of the local winegrowers.

The vines are planted at an average altitude of 80 m, which has always protected them from spring frosts. The Mauges mountains, 40 km to the west, stop a good part of the rainfall and allow us to obtain a beautiful and healthy ripening of the Cabernet Franc grapes, harvested in October, which are particularly suitable for making fine wines for ageing.
